In some ways Andy Roddick is the Anna Kournikova of men’s tennis, and I am by no means referring to his predilection for shaving his legs. I just think he is to men’s tennis what Anna Kournikova is, or was, to women’s tennis. Or more specifically, Roddick is to men and men’s tennis what Kournikova was to women and women’s tennis.
See, Anna Kournikova is one of the most popular tennis players in history and one of the most hated at the same time. Funnily enough, the divergence of opinion tends to run pretty much down gender lines. Men, generally, warm to Kournikova because they admire the way she dragged herself from an impoverished childhood in Russia to international fame and fortune through the vehicle of sports. Argh, who am I kidding? Guys like her because she is a sassy, hot piece of tail. Women, funnily enough, don’t like her for the same reasons. Read more
